Our bespoke RE curriculum at Billesley takes children on a meaningful learning journey, where every child has the opportunity to share their experiences through a concept-based approach.

Each year group begins the year by focusing on a specific religion, while also exploring a comparative religion. This approach encourages cross-curricular learning, with subjects like Art and Design & Technology integrated into RE. For example, children create their own representations of religious artefacts and symbols, deepening their understanding through hands-on activities. Philosophy for Children (P4C) is also included to encourage critical debates, providing a platform for discussing religious and non-religious worldviews.

Our comparative curriculum enables children to explore the similarities and differences between religions, empowering them to develop a flexible and inclusive understanding of faith and belief. Through this approach, children are able to:

  • Share and reflect on different lived experiences.
  • Build connections between previously taught lessons.
  • Deepen their individual understanding.
  • Offer alternative perspectives from non-religious worldviews.

Each overarching concept is revisited and developed as children progress through the school, giving them the opportunity to engage, challenge themselves, and excel in their understanding. This curriculum fosters:

  • Acceptance of change.
  • Tolerance of others.
  • An understanding of values and beliefs from diverse perspectives.

By exploring these concepts, our children are empowered to develop the skills needed to become clear, confident, and articulate learners, equipped with a broad and respectful understanding of different worldviews.
